One of the things that I think is so great about homeschooling is that we are able to let our children pursue their interests. Sure public school kids can do this too, but on a much more limited basis.
For instance, I have a dear friend whose son is intrigued with Web Design. He thinks HTML is cool. So my friend is looking into ways to let her son learn more on this subject. His goal is to make a living in this some day. I think that’s just fabulous!
Another friend’s son wants to become a structural engineer. So they got busy and found out what kind of knowledge this requires. If he continues to desire this path then they will tailor their schooling to match.
Here in Florida our homeschooled kids are even able to dual-enroll in the local community college to start working toward their life goals.
If you have one of those children who already knows by the age of 8, what they want to do when they grow up, I would encourage you to not only focus on the Three R’s. Allow them to investigate and try their hand at their chosen vocation.
