Chances are, you’re just starting a brand new school year. This can be a busy time starting new homeschooling curriculums and getting used to new routines. I thought this might be a geat time to share one of our family’s favorite recipes. It’s a quick easy, start it and forget about it recipe. It works best if you start it the night before.
Dee’s Crockpot Beans
You’ll need a bag of dried beans. Any kind will do. First pour them into a colandar and rinse them. Pick through them looking for rocks and other small matter that you don’t want to end up eating. Now dump them into a large pan. Add about a tablespoon of baking soda, (my mom always told me this helps to cut down on the gas beans can cause!). Now fill the pan with water to cover the beans. Put a lid on them and let them sit overnight.
The next morning, get your colandar back out. Rinse your beans again. You will find that they have about doubled in size over night. Now dump them into your crockpot and add plenty of water. Don’t forget to add some salt pork or maybe some chili spices! And you simply can NOT have beans without a nice hot pan of cornbread! Mmmmm! What time is dinner??
